When it comes to the biggest threats in cyberspace, social media and the internet in general it’s not Anonymous, Russia, China, or hackers hiding in a remote part of the world. It’s you. A bitter pill to swallow because our society always wants to blame someone else. But not this time, and not with me.
This is not George Costanza’s famous “It’s not you…it’s me” on Seinfeld. It most definitely is you. This picture came from a panel I moderated yesterday on spear phishing. Some of the top cybersecurity minds were there, including Kevin Mitnick. Affectionately known as the ‘World’s Most Famous Hacker’, I posed a very interesting question to him.
I asked “If you could have only one tool, one technique, which would it be and why?”. His response?
Attack the weakest link – you. Kevin could have mentioned one of a thousand hacker tools out there, or talk about how to scan a network for vulnerabilities. But he didn’t. Think about that. Until next time…
